In a remarkable tale of determination, resilience, and triumph, eight visually impaired women footballers have defied the odds to propel Indian football onto the world stage. They will be representing IBSA World Championship which is to be held in the United Kingdom from August 14 to 21. The IBSA World Championship is an international blind sports competition held every four years, hosted by the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA).

After 10 years of constant hard work by the Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF), the Indian blind women’s team has finally qualified for the games. For the first time, India will field a para women’s team as well as a football team for a World Cup. Consequently, leading to the empowerment of women as well as the differently abled.

Embracing the mantra that ability knows no bounds, these eight footballers embarked on a journey to prove that a lack of sight does not equate to a lack of ability. The national team selection was made from a pool of five sighted goalkeepers, 20 players, and three coaches. The team will depart for the UK on August 12 after a successful ongoing training camp at Kochi.

India will play against Austria in their opening game on August 14. Henceforth, they will battle against Argentina on August 16 along with Germany on August 18. University of Birmingham-Bournbrook in the UK is going to be the venue for the games.
