Durand Cup 2023: All you need to know

Durand Cup is one of the oldest football tournament in Asia, and the second edition supported by the Asian Football Confederation. The tournament is hosted by the Durand Football Tournament Society in co-operation with the AIFF, Eastern Command of the Indian Armed Forces and supported by the Government of West Bengal and Assam. It will be held from August 3 to September 3 with a total of 43 matches.

This is the second time that the tournament will be played in more than one venue. This will be the second season where all the 12 clubs in the Indian Super League will be mandated to participate, alongside the top clubs from the I-League and teams representing the Indian Armed Forces. After a gap of 27 years a foreign participation has returned in the 132nd edition.

Bengaluru FC are the defending champions of the Durand Cup defeating Mumbai City last year 2-1 in the final.

  2. SAI Special Area Game Centre- Kokrajhar,Assam
  3. Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium -Guwahati, Assam

*note

  • Imphal was initially drafted as a host city but due to the Manipur violence, Guwahati was set as replacement.
  • Shillong was also initially drafted as a host city but was eventually dropped.

A total of 24 teams will be participating in this tournament which 19 are Indian clubs and 5 services teams from India, Nepal and Bangladesh, the number of teams has been increased from the previous tournament (4 more teams added).
