Bengaluru FC Bolsters Attack with English Striker Curtis Main

Bengaluru FC’s Exciting Addition: Curtis Main Set to Make an Impact on 1-Year Deal

Bengaluru FC, a leading club in the Indian Super League, has made a significant move to strengthen their attacking force by signing English striker Curtis Main. The club officially announced the acquisition on Tuesday, securing Main on a one-year deal with an optional one-year extension, extending his contract through the end of the 2023-24 season.

Main, who most recently played for St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership, began his youth career at Sunderland AFC and honed his skills in the renowned Darlington FC Academy. With an impressive footballing background, Main brings a wealth of experience to Bengaluru FC.

“We’re delighted to sign Curtis, who is a player with a lot of experience in England and Scotland. He did very well last year for St Mirren and is a whole-hearted striker who works extremely hard for his team, has good hold-up play and will be a valuable asset. He was desperate to come to India, despite having the opportunity to sign longer contracts in the UK as he wanted a new challenge. Bengaluru, as a city and a football club, really suited him and I’m sure he’ll contribute a lot of goals and assists while he’s here,”

– said by Head Coach Simon Grayson

Born in South Shields, Main made history as the youngest player to represent Darlington at the age of 15 years and 318 days when he made his debut in a League Two match against Peterborough. He subsequently enjoyed successful stints at Middlesbrough, Doncaster Rovers, and Portsmouth, where he scored five goals during Portsmouth’s promotion-winning campaign to League One in his first season. In 2018, Main ventured to Scotland and signed with Motherwell before later returning to England with Aberdeen and Shrewsbury Tow

“Main is a striker who had interest from several clubs in Europe, and that he has signed with us shows the belief he has in our project. He’s someone that brings with him experience of leading attacks with his explosiveness and physicality, and we believe that his addition will help us a lot in what will definitely be a competitive season,”

Main’s signing marks Bengaluru FC’s second foreign acquisition this transfer window, following the recent arrival of Montenegrin center-back Slavko Damjanovic. With the additions of Main and Damjanovic, Bengaluru FC aims to bolster their squad and mount a strong challenge in the highly competitive Indian Super League.
