Brattan has the experience of winning trophies and representing Australian clubs in the Champions League
Earlier in Monday evening, Australian journalist Sha Nen tweeted that Sydney FC midfielder Luke Brattan is set to join Kerala Blasters in a groundbreaking move for each side. But Marcus Mergulhao has denied any such developments from his side.
“After signaling his desire to play in India all the way back in 2018, Luke Brattan looks set to join ISL powerhouses Kerala Blasters I am hearing. He will be a BIG loss for Sydney FC and a big asset to not only Kerala, but the ISL as a whole,” tweeted the Aussie journalist who further added that he is 99.9999999999% sure that this move will go through. “Something disastrous would have to happen to stop this I think,” he said.
However, Marcus was quick to react to the news. “Luke Brattan to Kerala Blasters is untrue,” he said in a tweet. This has slowed the fire down on the anticipation of having another A-League hero in the Indian Super League.
Luke Brattan turned 33 in March. Born in Hull, he started his A-League career in 2010 with Brisbane Roar. That was the time when Brisbane dominated the league. He won three A-League titles with the club before leaving for Manchester City. Where he remained in their books ever since he signed for them on a free transfer in 2015-16. He had a successful stint with Melbourne City FC when he spent three years on loan from 2016 to 2019. He finally moved on to Sydney FC and when the season he joined, he laid his hands back on the A-League trophy. That season, the midfielder scored his first ever goal in the AFC Champions League while representing Sydney FC.
Since a lot of players from the A-League come to India, it’s common that they have crossed paths in a different country before. For example, Sydney FC defeated Melbourne City 1-0 to win the Grand Final. That City team had current Kerala Blasters superstar, Adrian Luna in the midfield. While he himself was paired with FC Goa’s new signing Paul Retre in the midfield. And no points for guessing who was the man up top for Sydney. It was Adam Le Fondre who also won the A-League Golden Boot that season.
From our side, we can confirm that Luke Brattan has offers from India.
