Shields is Chennaiyin’s second overseas signing of the season
The 25-year-old Scottish Center-forward Connor Shields joins the Marina Machans from the Scottish side Motherwell and reunites with the new head coach of the club Owen Coyle.
Motherwell, on their official website, thanked Connor for his efforts and wished him well going forward.

Shields was loaned during 2022-23 when Coyle was coaching at Queens Park FC. He brings a vast experience from the Scottish and English leagues.
The speculations of Chennaiyin signing the Scotsman started when Sky correspondent Andrew Joseph tweeted about the severe possibility of Owen Coyle possibly convincing another one of his former players to join his side in the Indian Super League.
Connor Shields Career
Connor Shields, who has spent most of his time playing for various Scottish clubs, has also represented six-time English Champions Sunderland AFC at youth level for two seasons. At Queens Park FC, Shields scored five goals and assisted four in 53 appearances in the 2022/23 season.
Shields started his career at Albion Rovers during the 2015–16 season. He moved to England, signing for Sunderland. Later in August 2018, he was loaned to Alloa Athletic for six months. Shields was released by Sunderland at the end of the 2018–19 season. But he received interest and offers from a number of clubs.
In June 2019, Shields signed for Aldershot Town on a one-year deal. He moved to Billericay Town on loan in March 2020 – scoring on his debut later on August 2020, Shields signed for Queen of the South on a one-year deal.
Shields signed a three-year deal with Scottish Premiership club Motherwell after the completion of the 2020-21 season.
