In 2016, Dempo caused a stir in the football world when they joined forces with Goan comrades, Sporting Clube de Goa, and Salgaocar FC, to stage a bold protest against the AIFF’s decision to favor the flashy Indian Super League (ISL). But guess what? After a nail-biting five-year hiatus, Dempo made a sensational comeback last season. They had their sights set on the Second Division I-League and fought with grit and determination, coming oh-so-close to making it to the final round.
“Given our unmatched football history, we believe it is unfair to relegate Dempo SC to the third division I-League, We humbly request either a direct entry into the I-League or, at the very least, a direct entry into the 2nd division I-League.”

But that’s not all – brace yourselves for the unexpected! Goa Football Association’s head honcho, Caitano Fernandes, stepped up with a wild request
“We would like you to reconsider the number of slots granted to Goa and increase it to two, to allow us to nominate Sporting Clube de Goa, the runners-up of the Goa Professional League, as the second team from Goa, after Dempo Sports Club,”
