The Srinagar-based club announced their maiden participation in the Durand Cup
Downtown Heroes FC is one of the most admired clubs in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. Adding to its glory, the club got an invitation for participation in the Durand Cup 2023.
This laid the foundation of the club in 2020, and in the span of three years, it makes a good impact in State football. Under the leadership of Irfan Shahwari , the club has shown immense growth and performance in Indian Football. the aim of the club is promoting sports culture among the youngsters and keep them away from drug menace, channelize their young energies towards positive directions and develop a culture of sportsmanship among masses. Participation in the Durand Cup will give more glory to the and its state football.
Downtown Heroes FC played in the Jammu and Kashmir Premier League, also known as the Jammu and Kashmir Premier Division, where they finished third in the 2021 season.
The club also got its maiden participation in I League 2, the club finished second in Group A and failed to qualify for the final round of I League 2.
Downtown Heroes FC’s participation in the Durand Cup 2023 is due to the withdrawal of Neroca FC’s participation.
The club confirmed that there is lack of sponsorship and that financial woes revolve around the Imphal-based club. there will be no official participation in the 132nd edition of Durand Cup 2023. Last time Neroca FC and TRAU FC co-hosted the tournament in Imphal.
Durand Cup is one of the oldest tournament in the world and has a special place in the heart of Indian Football Fans, The tournament will be held on three cities that are Kolkata, Guwahati and Kokhrajar and it will start on August 3, 2023.
