The much-awaited Sahal Abdul Samad and Pritam Kotal swap deal has been made official by Mohun Bagan Super Giant and Kerala Blasters FC. Mohun Bagan finally added Sahal to their squad in exchange for the club captain Pritam Kotal and 90 lakhs INR. The transfer generated a lot of buzz in Indian Football circles in the past few weeks. The fans of both teams can take a sigh of relief after the final announcement by the clubs.
Sahal has penned down a five-year contract at the mariners. While sharing his first thoughts the poster of Kerala said,” I’m filled with pride at the thought of wearing the Mohun Bagan Super Giant jersey. The prospect of playing in the derby, wearing the Green and Maroon jersey, fills me with immense excitement. The stands will be packed with supporters passionately cheering for our team.
Speaking to Khel Now he further added,” I got married a few days ago. My wife is also a badminton player. I feel like me signing for Mohun Bagan is the best wedding gift ever. They won the ISL title last season. We have two World Cup players, and those who have played in the Europa League and I’ll play with them. We have five members of the Indian national team in the squad too, who helped India win three cups. But I’ve never won the ISL title in my career. That’s why I signed for Mohun Bagan, to win this trophy. I believe Mohun Bagan will only get better and that I’ll realize my dream of winning the ISL trophy.”
The star Indian attacker has directly contributed to 17 goals in the Hero Indian Super League while representing the Tuskers. Samad can play on both wings along with his favourite attacking midfield position. He can be a great domestic alternative to Hugo Boumous who is said to be on his way out. He can play a crucial role in fulfilling MBSG’s dream of winning the AFC Cup.
On the other side, Pritam Kotal brings a lot of experience to a young KBFC team. He would be the main man in defence. Also, his leadership quality will make them stronger as a unit, which was missing at the Tuskers. His inclusion ensures defensive solidity at the back for the Southern club. Being versatile he can play in both the centre defence as well as the right side of the pitch as a right back. The 29 year old India international will leave Mohun Bagan after representing them in 156 matches across competition.
It would be interesting to see how both these players would perform for their respective clubs. Leaving behind a legacy at their home clubs, they will be looking forward to creating a new identity at their new clubs.
