Legendary Salgaocar FC ceased their senior team operations after 67 years of illustrious past.
Goa Football Association got the entry form of Salgaocar FC but for U13 and U15 teams only. The Vasco-based club did not send their entry forms for U18 and U20 teams along with senior team operations. This means the legendary club will not be able to participate in the Goa Professional League.
The club was founded in 1956 as Vimson Club and renamed today’s Salgaocar FC in 1962. The nickname of the club is “the greens”. The historical club was founded by VM Salgaocar Companies.
The aim of the club is to give a platform for Goan youths to perform. Salgaocar FC was invited to the historic Durand Cup in 1962 and became the first Goan team to participate in the Durand Cup in New Delhi, Late PM of India Jawaharlal Nehru felicitated the team at his residence.
The club has won major trophies in India such as The Durand Cup, The Federation Cup, Rovers Cup, Bordoloi Trophy, NFL, and I-League, and represented the AFC Cup in 2012.
The club created many young talents in India and it was one of the best clubs in India, this news sent a seismic wave in Goa and Indian Football.
