In 2012, Sahal Abdul Samad started his youth career playing for Al-Ethihad Football Academy in UAE. Sahal played in UAE till 2016 and at the same time, he played for Kerala State Football Team.
Sahal entered the KBFC B team in 2017. After a good performance, he was selected for the KBFC main team for ISL season 4. He made his ISL debut on 8 February 2018, coming on as a substitute for former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov in the 80th minute. Sahal only plays 22 minutes in that ISL season.
In ISL Season 5 Sahal played again for KBFC. Sahal scored his first ISL goal in that season for KBFC against Chennaiyin FC. Sahal made 17 appearances for KBFC in that season. After his good performance in the ISL Season 5, Sahal got a call-up from the Indian camp. Sahal also made his debut for India in the 2019 Kings Cup. But the following two ISL seasons were not a good season for him. In those two seasons, he played 32 matches but did not score a goal.
He also played for KBFC in ISL Season 8 and performed brilliantly in that season. Sahal has 6 goals and 1 assist in 21 appearances for KBFC in that season. He was one of the players who played a major role in reaching KBFC to the final that season. He got huge offers from many clubs after the ISL season 8, but he decided to stay with KBFC.
In 19 Matches, he has scored 3 goals and 2 assists in the last ISL season for KBFC. He was one of the players who plays a major role in India winning the Terble title this year. Sahal is also the ISL Season 5 Emerging Player Award winner.
Finally, after six years Sahal has moved from KBFC to Mohun Bagan Super Giant Summer Transfer Window of 2023-24. His transfer was a lightning strike for all KBFC fans.
Indian Football Captain and legend Sunil Chhetri once remarked on him: “If that guy (Sahal) understands the kind of potential he has, maintains his body, and puts his head on his shoulder, he’s an extremely gifted talent.”
